Space for the In-Between

This project grew from years spent on both sides of the profession — practicing architecture, advising students, and teaching in the studio. Through those experiences, it became clear that students and young professionals needed more than a syllabus or a single advising session. They needed a space to prepare, to be supported, and to access the practical knowledge that usually gets passed down informally.

Threshold offers guides on building portfolios, writing cover letters and resumes, searching for positions, and finding the resources that sharpen how you present your work. Each tool is designed to meet you where you are — whether you are applying to your first firm or rethinking your next move.

Threshold is that space, and it is not fixed. It is an evolving platform, shaped by the people who use it and the profession it serves. This is not a final prototype. It is a living resource, open to everyone who wants to build a life in architecture.

About the Founder

Threshold was created by Seth Looper, an architect by training who has practiced in New York City and Boston. The idea for Threshold began while he was working as a career advisor at Washington University's School of Architecture, where he saw firsthand how many students struggled to find clear, practical guidance on grad school, portfolios, and the path to licensure. Seth now serves as Program Manager at Dartmouth College's Center for Career Design and teaches as Adjunct Faculty at Kent State University's School of Architecture, where he is working to integrate architecture thinking with career development. Threshold is the resource he wished existed — straightforward guidance to help architecture students and early-career professionals navigate what comes next.
